PECO Smart Natural Gas Conversion

Converting to natural gas is as easy as 1, 2, 3.

Converting to natural gas is simple. For customers who already have a natural gas service line on their property, having a gas furnace heating system installed—and enjoying the rebates and discounts—is only a 3-step process. For customers currently without a natural gas service line, having one installed (subject to availability)—and enjoying PECO installation credits—takes only a few additional steps.

Customers with an active natural gas service line

STEP ONE
Contact PECO at 1-888-499-7808 with the following information:
1. Account number or address of the property
2. Approximate square footage of your house
3. Please complete Step One before proceeding to Step Two.

STEP TWO
Meet with a heating contractor to help decide what type of system is best for your home. If you need contractor referrals, PECO can help when you call, or visit Electrical Association of Philadelphia's Web site at www.eap.org.

STEP THREE
Once your natural gas heating system installation is complete, fill out and sign the Natural Gas Conversion Rebate Form (pdf) and mail it, along with a copy of your PAID invoice, to:

Your rebate will be in the form of a check that will be mailed to you. Please allow 4-6 weeks to process your rebate form.

Customers Without a Natural Gas Service Line

STEP ONE
Determine if natural gas is available in your area.
Please see the section below on Natural Gas Service Line Availability.

STEP TWO
Contact PECO at 1-888-499-7808 with the following information:
1. The approximate distance from the front of your house to the middle of the street
2. What natural gas appliances that you plan to install, if any, in addition to natural gas heating
3. The square-footage of your home.

STEP THREE
Have a natural gas service line installed
1. Specially trained technicians dig up a small area near the street in front of your house to expose the gas main.
2. When conditions allow, the technicians "tap" a new service line into this main by using a device that burrows through the ground and surfaces right next to your home. Otherwise, the technicians will trench or plow to allow for installation of the service line.
3. A meter technician then mounts a natural gas meter to your home.
4. Your heating contractor can make arrangements with PECO to schedule the work with minimal disruption.

STEP FOUR
Once your natural gas heating system installation is complete, fill out and sign the Natural Gas Conversion Rebate Form (pdf) and mail it, along with a copy of your PAID invoice, to:

Natural Gas Service Line Availability

If you do not already have a natural gas service line, you may be able to have one installed if natural gas is available in your area. There may be a cost associated with adding a service line to your property. Homes currently without a natural gas service line are eligible for credits from PECO toward the installation costs of a natural gas service line for each qualifying natural gas appliance installed.

If your home currently does not have natural gas, your home may not be close enough to a nearby gas main to allow technicians to install a natural gas service line to your home without first extending the gas main. Please note that the cost of extending the gas main can be costly and is not covered by PECO.
